What Is IASTM?

September 29, 2022 by Dr. Martin Marmorale

As we get older, we become more prone to complicated injuries. Some of these more complicated but common injuries come in the form of soft tissue injuries.

Your soft tissue is basically everything that wouldn’t be considered a part of your skeleton or your organs. This includes your skin, muscles, nerves, ligaments, tendons, and so forth. The kind of injuries that you’re looking at that affect soft tissue are sprains, strains, and other similar kinds of injuries that can cause pain, discomfort, and limit mobility.

One approach to managing soft tissue injuries is known as soft tissue mobilization. This form of physical therapy incorporates several techniques to treat the affected area, reduce pain, and increase mobility. Some forms of soft tissue mobilization include the use of specially designed tools. These are known as instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization therapy, or IASTM for short.

Studies have shown that soft tissue mobilization can be more effective in pain reduction than even corticosteroid shots. What else do we know about IASTM?

Golfer’s Elbow and The Graston® Technique

July 28, 2022 by Dr. Martin Marmorale

As we go through our years of schooling, we’re encouraged to participate in sports and gym classes to develop healthy habits later in life that will encourage us to stay active. Many of us may go on to have a gym membership or home gym, go for runs or jogs, or play sports casually well into middle age, including golf and tennis.

While we’ve mentioned injuries in the past that could be sports related involving the spine, there are plenty that don’t. Some such sports-related injuries not involving the spine include golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow. Could these injuries and sources of chronic pain be treated with chiropractic care even though they don’t involve the spine?

June 30, 2022 by Dr. Martin Marmorale

Are you tired of the tennis elbow stealing your summer? Maybe it’s time to try the Graston Technique® instead of relying on inferior outdated remedies that just don’t work.

It happens. You get that sharp shooting pain in your arm and think maybe you pulled a muscle, or just tweaked it a bit, so you try resting and icing it. Then, you move on to pain relievers, but at best, you can only get the pain down to a dull ache.

Now, it’s time to make some choices. Do you just live with the pain or find a new option?

April 14, 2022 by Dr. Martin Marmorale

As we get older, we tend to deal with more aches and pains, but we also deal with more stressors. Many of us have to juggle work, family, homeownership, and countless other stressors. Pain and stress can intertwine as well. We’ve all been in situations where we experience back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other sources of pain that make our days more challenging and add to the stress we’re already managing. It can also prevent us from having a good night’s sleep, which will add to our stress and take a toll on our overall mental health.

What Is Rotator Cuff Tendonitis?

March 10, 2022 by Dr. Martin Marmorale

For many of us, as we get older, we’re more prone to aches and pains in colder weather and during sharp changes in barometric pressure. We’re not entirely sure of the reason, but those with chronic pain or arthritis are most susceptible to it. Issues with chronic pain are why you hear of so many New Yorkers becoming snowbirds or retiring down to places like Florida.

One such ailment aggravated in the cold weather is rotator cuff tendonitis. That’s a condition where the tendons in your shoulders are inflamed. Tendonitis happens a lot to athletes where your shoulders are vital to your success, including swimming, tennis, baseball, and more.

So, what can we do to help mitigate the pain or perhaps even cure rotator cuff tendonitis?
