Muscle Tightness When Returning to Exercise

May 14, 2026 by Dr. Martin Marmorale Leave a Comment

You decided to get moving again. Maybe it was a New Year’s resolution, a doctor’s recommendation, or simply the realization that your body felt different after months (or years) away from regular activity. So, you laced up your sneakers, picked up the weights, and pushed through that first workout. Now, two days later, every step feels heavier than the last, your hamstrings refuse to fully lengthen, and even reaching into the cabinet for a coffee mug seems to involve muscles you forgot you had.

Muscle tightness when returning to exercise is one of the most common — and most discouraging — experiences for adults reentering a fitness routine. It is also one of the most misunderstood. The discomfort you feel is not necessarily a punishment for taking time off, but rather your body’s way of recalibrating. Understanding what is happening, how long it should last, and when to seek targeted care can make the difference between sticking with your routine and quitting before you start to see results.

At East Bay Chiropractic Wellness P.C. in Bellmore, NY, we work with patients every week who are navigating exactly this challenge. This guide will walk you through the physiology of post-workout soreness, evidence-based strategies to ease it, and the role chiropractic care — particularly the Graston Technique® — plays in helping you move with less stiffness and more confidence.

Conditions That Can Be Treated with Chiropractic Care

March 16, 2023 by Dr. Martin Marmorale

There are many misconceptions about what chiropractic care can and cannot treat. The truth of the matter is that chiropractic care is an effective treatment methodology for a wider array of complaints than most would imagine. Chiropractic Care and Fibromyalgia

May 3, 2022 by Dr. Martin Marmorale

In many blogs across the internet discussing topics related to chiropractic care, they’ll touch on the different causes of spinal misalignment as well as chronic pain. When we think about spinal misalignments and soft tissue damage, common causes we see include car accidents, slip and falls, bad posture, sleeping incorrectly, and similar circumstances. Sometimes illness can cause chronic pain similar to that of soft tissue damage. One such illness is fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a condition that can cause chronic pain in your muscles and bones, fatigue, and more. It may even be more prevalent than you think as it affects approximately one in every 50 adults in the U.S. to some degree. And since fibromyalgia can cause pain in your bones, can it affect your spine?

As we get older, we tend to deal with more aches and pains, but we also deal with more stressors. Many of us have to juggle work, family, homeownership, and countless other stressors. Pain and stress can intertwine as well. We’ve all been in situations where we experience back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other sources of pain that make our days more challenging and add to the stress we’re already managing.
