Athletes, Elbow Injuries, & The Graston Technique®

August 28, 2025 by Dr. Martin Marmorale

As we age, we have to put more and more effort into getting in and staying in shape. Being able to maintain a baseline of physical fitness throughout our lives is one of the best ways to keep our independence well into our later years, in addition to being good for our overall health. And one of the best ways to keep in shape is by participating in sports. Some sports that people enjoy playing into their senior years include tennis and golf.

While being athletic has many advantages, it doesn’t come without risk of injury. Some of the more common injuries include tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow. Chiropractic care, including the Graston Technique®, can help you recover from these injuries faster.

How Does Graston Aid in Pain Relief?

When many people think of chiropractic treatments, they’re picturing spinal adjustments. While spinal adjustments are an important tool for chiropractors to utilize, it is far from the only one at their disposal. A misaligned spine can create pain not just in your back, but across your body as it impacts your central nervous system.

Another source of pain is soft tissue damage, which is where the Graston Technique® shines. Graston®, utilizing specialized stainless steel tools, targets adhesions and the hidden scar tissue buildup deep under your skin surrounding the affected soft tissue to help you heal faster and experience pain relief sooner.

Can Graston Help Improve Range of Motion?

Another benefit of breaking up adhesions and the buildup of hidden scar tissue is that it helps improve your range of motion in the affected area. Scar tissue is hard and inflexible. Breaking it up around your affected muscles, tendons, and ligaments allows you to move more naturally sooner.

Can Scraping Help Golfer’s Elbow?

Golfer’s elbow is an inflammation of the tendons around the inner elbow. Tennis elbow is similar, but affects the tendons around the outer elbow.

Because tendons are soft tissue, the Graston Technique® is an excellent method to treat both ailments, with many people experiencing some level of pain relief immediately after the technique is administered, depending on the severity of the injury. People also like the Graston Technique® because it can often resolve issues in about a month, which gets you back to playing the sports you love sooner while being less reliant on pain medication or risking surgery.

Golf Swings and Back Health

June 27, 2024 by Dr. Martin Marmorale

Your golf swing is where physics and your physique meet. If something is misaligned in your body, chances are, it will have a negative impact on your swing.

Golf engages multiple muscle groups, and when your spine isn’t properly aligned, it can throw off the coordinated actions required for an effective swing. When one area of your body isn’t performing well, others will overcompensate, causing subluxations and pain that may further impact your ability to play well.

Can Golfers Benefit from Chiropractic Adjustment?

Pro golfers like Tiger Woods are vocal about the benefits of chiropractic care for their swing, their game, and their overall well-being. Chiropractic care can alleviate back pain, elbow pain, and other issues faced by all kinds of golfers, from pros to casual weekend players.

Regular chiropractic adjustments help improve range of motion, alleviate existing pain, and prevent future pain. If you’re a golfer, chiropractic adjustments can boost your game and prevent injury by aligning your spine, improving your posture, and boosting your performance.

Can Chiropractors Fix Golfer’s Elbow?

Golfer’s elbow is a form of tendonitis resulting in pain, inflammation, and a buildup of scar tissue in the elbow. It doesn’t just affect golfers; anyone who overuses their elbow can suffer from golfer’s elbow. It also impacts musicians, construction workers, and those who play other sports. Even those who text, play video games, or type on keyboards for long periods can experience golfer’s elbow.

Chiropractic care can alleviate the pain of golfer’s elbow and help reduce inflammation. At East Bay, we specialize in the Graston Technique®, using specialized tools to locate and break up areas of scar tissue in and around affected areas. This allows your elbow to move more freely, helping reduce pain and improve range of motion.

How Do I Loosen My Body for Golf?

Tight, inflexible joints and muscles are detrimental to your game. To have a smooth, powerful swing, maintaining flexibility is important. When used in conjunction with chiropractic care, daily and warm-up stretching can keep your body strong and loose enough to swing fluidly, comfortably, and precisely.

Can Chiropractic Care Make You a Better Golfer?

Only you can put in the time, work, and dedication to become a better golfer, but we can prepare you to play your best. Chiropractic care can help your body perform optimally, improving your posture, coordination, flexibility, and range of motion. And when those improve, your swing improves as well, becoming smoother, more powerful, and more accurate.

Optimize Your Game with Chiropractic Care

For more than 35 years, East Bay Chiropractic Wellness has provided a broad range of chiropractic services to golfers and other athletes. We can help you prepare for and recover from the effects of sporting activities on your spine, joints, and muscles, with adjustments, massage, and more. Golfer’s Elbow and The Graston® Technique

July 28, 2022 by Dr. Martin Marmorale

As we go through our years of schooling, we’re encouraged to participate in sports and gym classes to develop healthy habits later in life that will encourage us to stay active. Many of us may go on to have a gym membership or home gym, go for runs or jogs, or play sports casually well into middle age, including golf and tennis.

While we’ve mentioned injuries in the past that could be sports related involving the spine, there are plenty that don’t. Some such sports-related injuries not involving the spine include golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow. Could these injuries and sources of chronic pain be treated with chiropractic care even though they don’t involve the spine?

Graston Technique for Tennis Elbow

June 30, 2022 by Dr. Martin Marmorale

Are you tired of the tennis elbow stealing your summer? Maybe it’s time to try the Graston Technique® instead of relying on inferior outdated remedies that just don’t work.

It happens. You get that sharp shooting pain in your arm and think maybe you pulled a muscle, or just tweaked it a bit, so you try resting and icing it. Then, you move on to pain relievers, but at best, you can only get the pain down to a dull ache.

Now, it’s time to make some choices. Do you just live with the pain or find a new option?
